PRESS RELEASE JUNE 2006

Château Soussac the idyllic French getaway

Château Soussac, a magnificent 19th century chateau is set in 15 acres of peaceful French countryside. Situated in the picturesque village of Soussac, the striking Chateau, dating from 1850, provides the idyllic holiday location for any food or wine lover and is conveniently located just thirty minutes from both Sauternes and St. Emilion and an hour from Bordeaux  and Bergerac airports.

Château Soussac offers one of the most comprehensive Wine Tasting and Wine Appreciation courses in the region. Discover the world of great wines in the vineyards which sprawl over 10 acres where some of the finest wines are produced. A team of experts are on hand to introduce the novice wine drinker to the delights of the grape or educate the seasoned connoisseur on how first-class wine is created.

The vineyard and wine making at Château Soussac is looked after by a hardworking and dedicated team, headed up by Cecile Dulimbert, who is regarded as one of the top ten winemakers in the Bordeaux region. Chateaux Soussac Bordeaux Supérieur is available to buy En Primeur by the barrel (300 bottles), a cost effective way of buying wines before they are released on to the market. Château Soussac Bordeaux Supérieur is bottled at the chateau, with, if you wish, personalised wine labels printed to the design of your choice – a great talking point at dinner parties and ideal as unique gifts. If staying during the harvest, guests are invited to help pick the grapes that will be used for their own personalised wine barrel.

For those wishing to improve their cooking skills, Château Soussac offers cookery courses conducted by French chef Stephan Ivansich, Stephan, who is very charming and speaks good English, trained at the famous Lycee Hotelier de Talence. Catering for all levels, Stephan takes guests on trips to local food markets and then teaches guests how to create authentic French gastronomic dishes. The courses are designed to improve everyone’s cooking skills, increase their recipe repertoire and also to enjoy the informal atmosphere of Stephan’s classes.

Guests who simply wish to relax can do so in the Chateau’s stunning surroundings. The Chateau is complimented by immaculate gardens with herbaceous borders and ancient specimen trees, a beautiful lake, large swimming pool and a picturesque orchard planted with peach, cherry and pear trees. Château Soussac also boasts a library which has over 1,500 books, both contemporary and antique, a billiard room and outdoor table tennis.

The emphasis for guests at Château Soussac is on comfort and tranquillity and this cannot be more evident than with the choice of five bedrooms, all en-suite each with breathtaking views of the gardens and vineyard. The furniture at Château Soussac features formal French furniture with Irish and English Georgian pieces. The picture collection is an interesting mix of modern paintings by some of Ireland’s leading contemporary artists and ancestral portraits.
